You may not be able to tell by the looks of her, but Lilou is only seven months old. The poor bulldog puppy was just wandering around alone in Southern California.
Her entire body is covered with scabs because of a severe case of mange. The mange wasn’t her only medical problem, Lilou also had a respiratory infection. But her story isn’t all bad. The kind folks at Love Leo Rescue found her and brought her into their care. Lilou had to be placed with an emergency foster caregiver to help her overcome all her ailments.

After a few weeks of care, she was sent to another foster care via Northwest Dog Project. This group helps at-risk dogs get adopted. Lilou underwent several more weeks of treatments that included coconut oil rubdowns and medicated baths.

She lost all the fur that she had, but soon a new, healthy coat started to grow! When word of Lilou got out, Cora Frazer, from Eugene, Oregon started to follow her progress. Frazer knew that she would have to meet Lilou. Frazer and her partner, Carl Ernst, joked about welcoming Lilou into the family before they met.

But, Frazer and Ernst loved hiking, and what bulldog likes to do that?! As soon as Lilou was healthy enough, then they all met. It was an instant connection, and it turns out that Lilou loves hiking! Ernst and Frazer let their other two dogs meet Lilou and put in an application to adopt her in January 2016. The rest is history!
