Lost Pup At The Shelter Thought Her Family Would Pick Her Up, But They Never Came

Lindsy was picked up by animal control back in May 2016. The 6-year-old mixed pit bull pup was assumed a stray and brought to New York’s Babylon Animal Shelter.

Then, a few weeks after her arrival, a young child rang up the shelter and said that Lindsy was her family’s dog, but had gone missing. She said she would ask her father if they could come to pick Lindsy up.

But Lindsy’s supposed family never came. Shelter staff were certainly disappointed, but they figured that Lindsy would be able to find a new family fairly easily due to her bright, sweet, and relaxed personality.

Unfortunately, this was not to be. It is now two years after Lindsy was first picked up, and she is now 8 years old. The stigma against pit bulls and long-time shelter stays, her new, older age, and her large size are what shelter staff believe is preventing families from wanting to adopt her.

Now a senior dog, Lindsy has tried her best to enjoy life at the shelter. She loves going on walks and eating treats, and she especially loves games of fetch and hanging out with the people she loves.

She isn’t too stressed out, thankfully, in the shelter environment, but being without a special home for so long isn’t ideal.

Lindsy’s spirits are always high and her tail is always wagging, and shelter staff really hope she will be able to find a home soon. It’s truly heartbreaking for them to watch a dog grow old confined to a shelter, and they know Lindsy deserves a forever loving home.

If you would like to adopt Lindsy, reach out to the Babylon Animal Shelter at 631-643-9270 or contact them through Facebook.
