Any dog-lovers dream is to be surrounded by adorable, friendly, precious pups. At Mr. Hsu’s Sanctuary, that vision is more than just an idea – it’s a reality.
Over 3,000 different pups live in the sanctuary. Started up by the Hsu family as a small family effort five years ago, the number of stray dogs they took in grew and grew due to Taiwan’s huge amount of stray animals. In order to accommodate them, a generous donor provided the family with a huge facility to use, and the rest is history.
The large sanctuary offers a ton of support to these thousands of pups, with a room for sleeping, a park to play in during the day, and even a separate special cat room.
Pups who have paralysis in their hind legs or a similar debilitating condition are built special, custom wheelchairs at a low cost by one of the volunteers.
Taiwan is the first country in the world that banned the act of euthanizing stray dogs as a way to control their population. This has led to shelters taking in strays and putting them through spay/neuter programs, which will hopefully lead to a more educated future surrounding stray animals.
