Malnourished Dog Looking Like A Skeleton Found Tied To A Tree

A dog tied to a tree in Southwest Philadelphia was discovered on Easter morning by a Good Samaritan who contacted the Humane Law Enforcement team at the Pennsylvania SPCA for assistance.

The dog, later named Hallelujah (or “Hal” for short), needed urgent medical attention as he was visibly malnourished. An officer from the Humane Law Enforcement team arrived at the scene quickly and transported the poor pup to their headquarters. Hal weighed about 43 pounds and was so emaciated that every bone in his body was visible.

Aside from the emaciation, which had him looking like a skeleton, he had pressure sores all over his body, and a tip was his tail had fallen off because his tail had started dying. The rescue team spent the next couple of days treating his wounds and making him eat as much as possible. After two weeks, he gained six pounds, and his condition improved.

Despite all he had been through, the pup always maintained a positive outlook and wagged his tail often. “He’s just happy to be around all the people here. So, I think he knows he’s getting good care, and he’s grateful,” Nichola Redmond, the site director at Main Line Animal Rescue, said. Hal is looking much healthier now and is undergoing a refeeding program to help him gain more weight. He would be up for adoption once he is deemed ready.
