Life is difficult for stray dogs. When the dog also happens to be a mother, things get more challenging. One mama pit bull was living in an abandoned home with her puppies when she was rescued by the Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
Taking care of her babies while surviving on the streets wasn't easy. The mama dog was struggling to keep her puppies warm amid the freezing temperatures when the rescuers found them.
The chief life-saving officer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Donna Lochmann, knew that it was crucial to get the mama dog and her pups to safety due to the danger that the cold posed to them.
Although the rescuers had good intentions, savings the puppies, who were shaking due to the cold, was a challenge as their mother was quite protective and didn't let anyone near them.
When Donna tried to get close to the puppies, the mama dog gave her a warning growl. However, with patients and yummy sausages, Donna eventually got the dog to trust her.
With the dog's permission, Donna attached a leash to her and retrieved her babies safely. The small family was warmed up before being returned to the shelter, where staff members are currently caring for them.
