The Memphis Police Department has arrested a 43-year-old man, Quishon Brown, for allegedly setting a Pitbull on fire in Memphis, Tennessee. The man was said to have covered the dog, now named Riona, in gasoline before setting her on fire.
The Tails of Hope Dog Rescue picked up Riona and drove her to a veterinarian for medical attention after people found her running down the road on fire and screaming.
Riona sustained life-threatening injuries, with 60% of her body covered in 4th-degree burns. She had to undergo surgery to graft skin over her burns. Thankfully, she had a team of dedicated staff who were committed to saving her life.
While Riona was still recovering, the Tails of Hope Dog Rescue reported the case to the police and launched a search to find the person who set her on fire. The rescue created a TikTok channel for her and shared a video telling her story. The video went viral, and people from different parts of the world offered assistance, including raising a $20,000 reward money for information regarding the culprit.
The police identified Quishon Brown as a suspect following witness testimonies and video surveillance. They charged Brown with "Aggravated Animal Cruelty, Arson to Set Fire to Personal Property, and Simple Assault."
Riona is still on her road to recovery. Although she has a long way to go, she's in good hands.
