Man Drives 200 Miles Across Florida To Save Shelter Pup From Being Euthanized

Royce was picked up by a shelter in Miami, Florida, as a stray in bad shape. The pup was adopted twice but returned each time, likely due to his high levels of energy.

The shelter, however, thought that the pup might simply not be an adoptable dog. He was scheduled for euthanasia. Desperate to save his life, a volunteer with the shelter made a Facebook post about the pup back in July 2017, hoping someone would take him in.

Just in the nick of time, David Sebba came across the post. He was immediately drawn to Royce’s big smile, and he knew chances of the pup getting adopted after being returned twice were slim. But Royce was all the way in Miami, and Sebba lived back in Orlando.

So Sebba called the shelter and begged them to hold onto Royce. He then hopped into his car and drove over a whopping 200 miles to get to Royce. The entire time, he was completely anxious that he wouldn’t make it in time and he would be too late.

Thankfully, Sebba arrived before the shelter closed. He was brought back to meet Royce, who was stressed out from the loud shelter environment. Once outside, he was thrilled to stretch his leg and sniff at everything he saw!

Sebba signed the adoption papers and brought Royce to his vehicle. Over the long drive back, the pup paced around anxiously, as though nervous that he would be returned again. When they finally arrived home, Sebba introduced Royce to his wife, who had been completely unaware that Sebba had gone off to adopt him.. Luckily, she welcomed the pup with open arms!

Royce was immediately thrilled to start playing right away, running around going nuts! But then he ran into trouble with the family cats, as all he wanted to do was play – and Sebba was worried he would accidentally harm them.

Luckily, there was a solution. Sebba’s mother, who lived alone, would probably like a companion, so Sebba brought Royce to her. It was a match made in heaven, and the two now live happily together!

Royce and Sebba’s mom share a close bond now, and he loves snuggling with his new Mom and enjoying being well-fed and cared for. It looks like Sebba finally found the forever home he deserves!
