Man Sleeps Outside In Bitter Cold With Hundreds Of Rescue Dogs

Stray dogs are a common sight in many places. While some people and organizations are trying to help them out, many people don’t even bother giving them some scraps.

And there aren’t enough institutionalized methods through which reforms can be made to help them out. But some people would give up their well-being to help dogs in need.

Serbia is a place that struggles with a lot more stray dogs than your average area. Thousands of dogs are abandoned, and some are even abused or murdered. And the dogs who end up on the streets have to face extremely difficult conditions. They lack food, water, medication, shelter; the list goes on. Many people don’t bother to help these dogs. But some will go out of their way to lend a helping hand.

Dejan from Vucjak Shelter had been rescuing dogs for 20 years. The shelter takes care of over 1,000 dogs and they get more than 10 phone calls every day from people looking to get rid of their dog. He is so dedicated to helping dogs overcome past trauma and get a better life, that he even sleeps outside with them. The weather in Kragujevac, where the shelter is located, the weather drops to below zero in the winter.

Sometimes it goes as low as –20 degrees Celsius. But Dejan is still determined to help the dogs as best as he can. So, he chooses to take every dog he can in his care, and until he gets enough space to make sure every dog is safe, he will be outside, sleeping with them, and making sure they are safe.
