Adopting a pet with your partner is a milestone – so why not bring it together with another milestone for a double celebration?
That’s what Conner Juilfs decided when he and his partner Alison Hansen were planning to adopt their second pup. When they went in to get their new member of the family, he would propose to her with the pup’s help!

Of course, some planning was needed, so Conner contacted the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and arranged the surprise. The organization got to work pairing him with a good dog for them, and they thought of Lizzie, a pup with a healing skin condition and a loving personality. Conner secretly went to meet Lizzie the day before the surprise and immediately knew she was the right pup. Despite being mistreated in the past, she was kind and friendly.

Saturday loomed, and both Conner and Alison arrived to see Lizzie. As the pup excitedly ran between them, knowing she would soon be in a forever home, Conner got down on one knee and revealed an engagement ring tied to Lizzie’s collar!

Alison said yes to both Lizzie and Conner, and since then, they’ve set to work with a lot of planning for their wedding in 2019. Lizzie gets along incredibly well with her new big pup brother at home, and they may even feature in the wedding of the happy couple. We’ll have to wait and see!
