The stories we read about various animals showing love and affection to others regularly has our hearts melting. Nothing is as cute as a duck curled up in the paws of a protective pup.
The fostering behavior does not seem to be unique to humans, and the display of protective behavior seems to be the case in animals too!
During the novel coronavirus outbreak, Californian woman Benken decided she would be the shelter to animals that needed help. When she was contacted about three kittens who needed 24/7 care and feeding, she could not find it in her to say no. Jelly’s Place animal rescue in California approved Benken for the fostering of these babies, and she took the offer right away.
When she brought the kittens home, Benken soon noticed she was not the only one who was going to foster them into adulthood. Benken’s Labrador mix, Truvy, was determined to foster the kittens too. Truvy took initiative from the first sight of the kittens and has been by their side ever since!
She cuddles them, licks them clean, and makes sure they are always safe. When feeding time comes, Truvy carefully “eyes” Benken and is not impressed that she is handling “her” babies. This happened to the point that Benken had to let Truvy out of the room during feeding time. When let back in, Truvy immediately runs to the kittens and checks that they are still safe.
Truvy became so protective over the kittens that she would veer off any other dogs and even started hiding them in drawers! Benken cannot help but wonder if it is because Truvy was a shelter dog herself. Regardless, Truvy now has a close relationship with the kittens, and Benken lets her be. Remarkable isn’t it!
