Loud sounds and static energy are both scary things to dogs, so thunderstorms are the next level of terrifying for pups and their sharp senses of hearing!
That’s what it’s like for Bentley the chihuahua. The pup, who is eight years old, was adopted into the home of his Mom, Melanie Barr, and he’s always been sweet and loving, and he loves to follow both Mom and Dad around. There are few things that get him down, but thunderstorms are one of them.
When thunderstorms kick up, the pup often shakes and shivers for the whole night, and his eyes grow big with worry. When the wooden windows throughout the whole slam, he jumps, and the pup just gets very on edge in general. Even when his Mom and Dad let him sleep in bed with them, he still has trouble sleeping.
A recent storm had poor Bentley up all night, and he was grumpy and in a bad mood due to being so tired and anxious. Luckily, Mom found a way to help him relax! She set up a pillow in front of a window where the sun was streaming through, and the pup naturally gravitated towards it.
Once he had settled down in front of the window, Mom tucked him in with a baby blanket and his favorite toy, a Chewbacca teddy. The pup was immediately relaxed and felt safe, so he took a much-needed three-hour nap! The little homemade bed made the pup feel secure and enabled him to finally get the rest he needed. It’s the little things that help!
