More Than 100 Dogs Surprise 7-Year-Old Dog Lover With Spina Bifida

Sometimes one small act of kindness can have lifelong positive repercussions. This is illustrated by the experience of one small boy, named Theo Rensberger, who hails from Wauwatosa in the USA.

Theo was born with a condition called spina-bifida which is when the spine and spinal cord don’t form properly in the womb. With Theo’s seventh birthday looming, his mom, Melody Rensberger, decided to do something really special for him. With social distancing a very real concern at the moment, she came up with a wonderful idea.

Theo is absolutely obsessed with dogs, he loves them to distraction, even to the extent that he has made a list to which he adds any new dogs that he sees. Knowing this, Melody contacted members of her community and requested that they bring their dogs to the front of their yard so that Theo could wave and perhaps spoil them with a treat (thrown of course). Theo’s birthday dawned and, hoping for a response, the family sat on the porch and waited. What happened next exceeded all expectations!

Dog after dog passed by, often stopping to drop off a present for Theo. Theo threw treats to his heart’s content and many dogs reciprocated by doing tricks for him. The highlight of the afternoon was when a lady with two dogs stopped by. One of her dogs was in a purse and amazingly, the pet parent said that this little dog had spina bifida, just like Theo. Theo was delighted because he was able to identify with her.

More than 100 dogs and 150 people passed by for Theo’s special birthday celebration and this made an impact on him, his family, and all the ‘guests’.
