Finally, the pets that live in certain counties across the United States are getting laws designed to help them! It would seem that dogs finally have rights!
There is nothing more heartbreaking than to see a dog chained to a post or a tree. The chain is usually a very heavy one, and the dog has little or no shelter. Plus, they most likely don’t have access to any fresh water. Why get yourself a dog if all you are going to do is chain it up outside? Last week, Shore Animal Control (SAC) signed a new law regulating how long a dog can be chained up outside!
According to the new law, any dog chained up for more than half an hour needs to have a lightweight chain or a rope around its neck that is at least 15 feet long! That should give them plenty of room to walk around! The new law also stipulates that the dog have some shelter and access to clean water. When the weather gets miserable, no pet can be left tied up outdoors for more than 30 minutes unless the responsible party is around.
The Cape May County Herald reported that there have been many warnings and summons issued for violations of this new law. That is sad that people can’t just provide the basic and humane care for an animal. But, the new law seems to be catching the attention of its citizens as SAC has gotten many calls about animals left out in the cold. Hopefully, this law will catch on in other countries across the country.
