A company from Portland, Oregon, has issued a voluntary recall of some select pet food items due to a suspected contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
These varieties of pathogen can cause a wide variety of health complications and should not be consumed by your pets, and humans may be at risk of health damages if they have handled products with this bacteria on it.
Northwest Naturals has announced that their Chicken and Salmon Dog Food product, packaged in frozen chubs of 5 lbs each. The affected products were distributed in the following states: California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington. Affected lots have a UPC code of 0 87316 38440 6 and are marked with the best buy date code 15 082218.
As of now, there have been no reported illnesses as a result of these items. If you have purchased the affected foods, you can return them to the store that you purchased them from in order to obtain a full refund. You can also contact Northwest Naturals at 1-866-637-1872 with questions or concerns.
