Officials Are Investigating Lake Belton Following Reports Of Dogs Dying After Visiting It

Dogs are always very curious and will explore their surroundings wherever they go. For some, especially Delaney Presley and her six-month-old dog Koda, this isn’t always a good thing.

On Sunday, Delaney and Koda were walking around Lake Belton, where they commonly would come. Koda would always drink from the lake water, but never went fully swimming in it. As they started to leave it looked to Delaney that Koda was beginning to lose his balance, and then all of the sudden, he fell onto the floor and started to have a seizure. Unfortunately, he passed away as they got to the hospital.

Following the death of Koda, vets in Belton, Texas claimed that he was the third dog death this weekend after visiting the lake. The cause of each death was from something entering the bloodstream. Officials from the Army Corps of Engineers worked hard to get to the bottom of it and even tested the lake. They stated that there were no signs of harmful algae bloom, but more testing will be done to make sure that it is safe for dogs and humans. There is now a posted advisory at the lake that recommends dog parents to keep their dogs on a leash and not allow them near the lake.

Following the death of Koda, Delaney posted on Facebook about the horrors of the lake and urged all dog parents to stay away. Many people commented and shared her post, offering their sadness for the loss of Koda, and thankfulness for warning them.
