The Animal Rescue League Of Iowa was pivotal in rescuing over 500 dogs from a breeding operation in Iowa. They spend a couple of weeks working towards getting them out of those terrible conditions and into safe spaces.
With the help of the ASPCA and other rescues, they managed to rescue all of the dogs and get them to safety. When they first found out about this operation, rescuers arrived at the scene to find the dogs in awful shape. They were all dirty and matted, some of them were suffering from untreated wounds and illnesses, and they were all stuffed into small cages.
The person responsible for this breeding operation is Daniel Gingerich. He surrendered the dogs to rescuers after being accused of more than 190 violations of the Animal Welfare Act. The US Department of Justice filed a complaint where they described the conditions the dogs were forced to live in.
They stated that Gingerich failed to meet minimum standards of welfare, by not giving the dogs the required nutritional and medical health. This resulted in suffering and even death. He even tried to hide sick dogs from inspectors, instead of giving them the required treatment.
ARL is overseeing the rescue operation. They have vouched to take care of all the dogs. About 90 of the dogs who were in the worst conditions have been placed under the care of ARL’s Miracle Medical Team, where they will get the best care anyone could offer them. Several other rescues have taken in as many dogs as they can.
As of now, none of the dogs is available for adoption. But ARL is encouraging people to donate if they can and keep an eye on the website if they are interested in any of the dogs.
