Briana Maiola rescued Mya, a Pitbull, from a shelter when she was 9 months old. The pup was underweight and refused to eat anything. In one of Briana’s earliest posts on Facebook, she revealed that Mya was “in and out of 3 different vets the first month we had her. Just when she’d start to recover, new symptoms would emerge.”
Thankfully, Mya’s health started improving over time with her family’s care, love, and support. Her family even upgraded their humidifier to help her breathe well while still recovering from a respiratory infection and pneumonia.
Since Mya didn’t like eating, her mom said they had to force-feed her for months until they decided to try a raw diet. “She loved the raw food and started dancing with her bowl,” Briana said. Mya became “extremely enthusiastic about her meals” afterward.
It’s been over two years since Mya moved in with Briana, and she eats well now. Aside from her new love for food, she also loves helping Briana. For instance, when the family was remodeling their home, Mya assisted by carrying the tools basket, pipes, and paintbrush.
She even has her dedicated grocery bag for carrying items when Briana goes grocery shopping.
“From coming to me terrified and hungry, but not willing to eat anything, to having a whole drawn-out performance… It just warms my heart so much to see how happy she is now,” Briana said.
