[Poison Alert] Warning To Dog Owners As Toxic Palm Oil Washes Up On South Devon Beaches

This palm oil is so toxic that once a dog eats it, they only have about an hour before they die. Treatment needs to be done within an hour to save your dogs. More here.

It happened early last year and now it’s happening again today. It has been reported that toxic palm oil has been found washed up on south Devon beaches that prompted a warning to all dog owners living or frequenting this area. Dogs who have so far eaten the palm oil, that looks like a waxy white lump, have experienced severe illness and death.

Dog owner called Gail McNeill had to rush her pet Ginger to emergency vet treatment after she ate the palm oil on the shore at Hope’s Nose, Torquay on Friday last week.

Gail has gone a step further to alert people that there’s a lot of toxic substance on the beach and that dog owners who take their dogs there have to be very careful. She was quoted saying, “My dog ate toxic Palm oil at Hope’s Nose and needed emergency treatment at the Animal Health Centre to prevent poisoning. My dog was incredibly ill last week after developing acute pancreatitis and almost died. This can be caused by ingesting palm oil, so we believe she ate some last week whilst in the same area.

Thankfully Ginger is recovering, but Gail added by saying, “I would like to warn other dog walkers in the area as there was lots on the beach. It’s toxic to dogs and they need to be treated within an hour of ingesting the toxic substance. It looks like small stones, has a biscuity texture, I almost mistook it for seabird droppings, smells slightly unpleasant and is very tasty to dogs. Please pick it up if you see it and dispose of it safely. Many dogs die from consuming it in small quantities. It has killed many dogs already in Devon and Cornwall.”

This palm oil is often discarded by ships at sea and those dogs who eat it can experience liver failure and gastrointestinal problems. Please SHARE this news with everyone you know. Let’s be responsible.
