Popular Dog Food Recalled Because It Has Too Much Vitamin D

Attention all dog parents, siblings, and friends! A popular brand of dog food has been recalled because manufacturers are worried it has too much Vitamin D. According to federal officials, this can cause very serious health problems for dogs and is an issue that must be dealt with swiftly.

The manufacturer of this dog food is Wet Noses Natural Dog Treat Company. To date, they have recalled roughly 51,000 parcels of Simply Nourish frozen dog food. These products were shipped specifically to PetSmart stores across the country. This recall notice was posted on the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website.

While the company is not yet aware of any illnesses or complications related to the recalled products, it is a fact that severe health issues including renal dysfunction can occur due to prolonged consumption of high levels of Vitamin D. Some of these symptoms include vomiting, increased thirst, excessive drooling, loss of appetite, increased urination and weight loss.

It is to be noted that the company issued this recall voluntarily after a routine testing where elevated levels of Vitamin D was detected on specific Simply Nourish frozen food products.

According to the notice, “Subsequent investigation indicates the problem arose as a result of the vitamin mix dosage being significantly reduced by the vitamin mix manufacturer, and this change was not detected or properly communicated.

Additionally, the dosage was not reduced. Corrective actions have already been put in place by the company to prevent this type of issue from happening again.
