Popular Dog Food Recalled Due To Potentially Elevated Levels of Thyroid Hormone

Two types of a limited production variety of dog treats have been voluntarily recalled by the J. M. Smucker company following three reports of illness in pups after consumption. This is due to the possible elevated levels of a beef thyroid hormone in the treats.

The recalled products are two kinds of Milo’s Kitchen dog treats. This is far from the first recall of this kind by J. M. Smucker, which has been the center of unfavorable controversy after having to recall countless varieties of their pet food due to salmonella and listeria contamination over the past few months.

Here are the products affected by the recall.

The presence of elevated beef thyroid hormones in pet foods can result in faster heart rates, sudden weight loss, frequent urination and thirst, and restlessness in dogs. These symptoms will likely disappear after consumption stops. With that being said, eating affected foods and treats for too long causes worse symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting, and difficulty breathing. If your pup exhibits these symptoms and has recently consumed the aforementioned treats, cease all consumption and seek medical attention for your pup immediately.

Should you have purchased the affected items, you can receive a refund or a coupon for a replacement through the J. M. Smucker company. Simply drop their customer care line a call at 1-888-569-6767 or fill out an online form here to email them.
