Pups Abandoned During Hurricane Irma Are Up For Adoption In Bay Area

It is a sad fact that during natural disasters pets get abandoned. Dozens of pets were left behind when Hurricane Irma blew through the southern United States.

The Alameda County Fairgrounds will now by having a pet fair for those animals. They need new homes! Some of the former pet parents returned home only to find that their home was destroyed and they had no way of caring for their pet. Elena Bicker, Animal Rescue Foundation’s executive director, said that these people are showing up at Florida shelters and surrendering their pets.

Hundreds of these animals were flown into the Bay Area from both Florida and Texas (animals left behind in the wake of Hurricane Harvey). The pet fair is going to be this weekend, and 80 animal rescue organization and shelters are slated to be there with all the animals (both dogs and cats) ready to be given a second chance. All of the animals have been given an examination by a vet, microchipped and are up to date on their vaccines!

Please don’t let this happen to you and your beloved pet. Make arrangements now for your pet. Find a place for them to go if you can’t care for them. They are family, and we need to be responsible pet parents. If you are in the Bay Area and have room in your house and home for another fur baby, please go to the Alameda County Fairgrounds and see if there is a pet waiting for you!
