Redbarn’s recall of its Bully Sticks due to salmonella contamination, which was announced last month, has been expanded due to further suspected contamination.
This decision came after the company tested raw material from its suppliers and discovered positive tests for salmonella. The larger recall will now affect 24 different pup treats made over the past year, from March 2017 until February 2018.
Salmonella can manifest in both animals and humans who consume or handle these foods. Vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, and fevers are some of the most common symptoms in dogs, while humans may suffer those same symptoms, yet salmonella can manifest in arterial conditions, endocrine issues, and urinary tract infections.
