In a heartbreaking tragedy in Orange County, Florida, Sam Shaw, 19, lost control of his Jeep and crashed it, passing away at the scene of the accident. But he hadn’t been the only one in the car. The family dog, Taz, had been riding with him – but he was nowhere to be found, as he had fled the scene is terror.
The Shaw family, grieving the loss of a son and brother, held onto the hope that Taz was still alive somewhere. Sam’s older brothers printed countless flyers advertising for their lost pup and spread news of his disappearance on social media, and the entire family piled into their truck and traversed the area, calling Taz’s name and hoping to find him.
Then, a teacher at the Valencia Community College noticed a terrified, shaking pup outside her classroom one day, and the pup didn’t move for hours. Before the school could call animal control, she volunteered to take the pup home. She knew that he looked like an owned dog and didn’t want him to go to a shelter. It didn’t take long for her to find out who Taz belonged to as she looked over social media.
The Shaws were delighted to get a phone call saying someone had found Taz, and when they went to collect him, the pup ran up to them excitedly, wagging his tail and jumping over everyone. While the family still grieved the loss of Sam, Taz’s return made it sting just a little bit less.
