Rescuers Deliver 4,000 Beagles From Cruel Breeding Facility

About 4,000 beagles were saved from a life of cruelty at a massive breeding facility in Virginia, United States. The rescue is said to be one of the biggest dog rescue efforts ever performed in the country.

The rescued beagles were meant to be sold to laboratories and animal testing facilities. Fortunately, the breeding facility, Envigo RMS LLC, was uncovered and sued for animal cruelty. According to the  Humane Society of the United States, the facility was sued for "repeated Animal Welfare Act violations."

Reuters reports that the breeding facility euthanize dogs rather than treat them for minor ailments. It also failed to provide the dogs with adequate food and kept them in unsafe, crowded living spaces. Due to their negligence, several puppies died from cold exposure.

The United States Justice Department sued Envigo RMS LLC, and its parent company, Inotiv Inc, agreed to shut down the facility.

According to the president and chief executive of the U.S. Humane Society, Kitty Block, it would take at least 60 days to get all the dogs out of the facility. The rescue is working with its partners to find the dogs new forever homes.

Several batches of the dogs have been taken out of the facility to the Humane Society's rehabilitation center, where they are welcomed with toys, treats, and love. In the coming days, more dogs will be rescued and placed in shelters or foster homes.
