The Smith County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office was recently involved in rescuing almost 40 dogs from a neglect situation in Smith County.
They were assisted by the Humane Society of the United States, the Animal Investigation and Response, and the SPCA of East Texas. This all happened because authorities investing claims of illegal activities in the area got a warrant for searching the property, and there they found dogs living in inhumane conditions.
All of the dogs were stuffed in tiny chain-link kennels. The structure of the kennels was unstable, with metal even collapsing in some of them. There was no clean water or food anywhere. When the rescuers arrived, the dogs had very mixed reactions. Because they had never been socially interactive, many of them were anxious, or even straight-up scared by humans.
But some of them were clearly excited like they knew they were getting out of there. All of the dogs were taken to a shelter where they received the medical attention they needed. All of them were dehydrated and malnourished, but some of them had even worse issues, like infections.
And all of them needed to be assisted in the journey to getting adapted to a normal life. This experience was, and even is, very overwhelming for them, as most of them haven’t even seen the sun before the authorities helped them. RedRover stepped up to assist the Humane Society in making sure the dogs get the love and treatment they need to get back on their feet.
Once they get healthy again, they will be available for adoption, and hopefully, all of them will get the homes they deserve. Currently, we have no information about when they’ll be up for adoption, but we will update this page should we find out more details.
