Retired Military Pup Is Up For Awards For Saving Millions Of Lives!

Every year, the American Humane Hero Dog Awards celebrates amazing pups that have served the country and saved lives. This year, one of the nominees for this prestigious award is Summer, a yellow Labrador pup who is eight years old.

In her younger years, Summer worked in the military in Afghanistan with the marines, but even though she’s retired now, she hasn’t stopped helping people. She works with the Amtrak Police Department as part of the TSA K9 bomb-sniffing unit, and you’ll see her doing her rounds at Union Station, Washington, D.C. where she performs inspections on passengers and makes sure everything is safe. After being in firefights in Afghanistan, this is a great change of pace for this amazing pup.

Voting for this award has already closed, but we’re eagerly awaiting the 25th of July when the winners will be announced to see if Summer wins! Even if she doesn’t, though, she’s a winner in all of our hearts.
