Fist, was first and foremost and beloved friend of the St. Clair County and who also served as a police dog. According to Micheal Pink, St. Clair County Sheriff Deputy, Fist was a sociable, loving dog who also had a great work ethic.
He served with the department from March 2010 to January 2016 and had been with Pink as his handler since 2011. When he retired, he went to live with Pink and his family. He was euthanized on Wednesday.
According to the Sheriff, Mat King, Fist served with the sheriff’s first and only interdiction team that was responsible for intercepting narcotics traveling through the country. Later, he became a patrol dog where he aided in searching for missing persons and suspects on the run. His powerful sense of smell was able to canvas anything from airplanes to boats much faster and more efficiently than many officers.
Fist’s most memorable case was where he helped to locate a missing person, changing their life forever. When he was not at work, he was a pretty goofy dog. He was also very sociable and would greet each deputy every morning.
This all came to an end at age 14 due to ongoing health issues. Having lived with Pink’s family for five years into his retirement, it was difficult to see him go. Pink named his new dog Faust, which is Fist in German, in his honor. They have also restarted the police dog program.
