See How These Pups Comforted The Survivors Of The Las Vegas Shooting

Hundreds of people (489) were shot and 59 people lost their lives at the Route 81 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017.

Michael Castor was one of the victims, in this picture, he still had not regained the feeling in his legs after four days in the hospital. Lois is the gorgeous Golden retriever that came to visit and bring comfort to Castor and other victims of the mass shooting. Lois is just one of 19 trained comfort dogs that went to Las Vegas in the aftermath of that horrible event.

The dogs came from Lutheran Church Charities (LLC) K-9 Comfort Dogs with their handlers to visiting all the people who were affected by the tragedy. The dogs can’t respond with comforting words, but there is nothing quite like having a dog rest their head on your lap while you express your sadness.

The dogs are a critical part of everyone’s recovery. Cubby and his handler, Bonnie Fear traveled from their home in Colorado. One woman they met had no words at all, Cubby put his head near her head and just stayed there for 30 full seconds. Cubby knew that was what she needed most. As the dogs lined up outside the hospital rooms, other visitors to the hospital came up to them and asked their names.
