The advantage of owning a senior pup is that they are often a lot more low-energy than their younger counterparts. This makes them much more relaxed, and in turn, much easier to handle! Especially so since they have already seen it all before – there isn’t any reason to panic or get excited about nothing important.
This is probably why Mom doesn’t seem to be overly worried about her pup, Buddy the Beagle, being so close to these juvenile chicks and their mother hen. Buddy, being a senior pup, probably has gotten used to chickens before, and is more curious about them than anything. Plus, he probably is just too lazy to chase after them!
Such a realization must come as a relief to the mother hen, since Beagle pups were bred to hunt down small prey! At least this hen knows that she doesn’t have to worry too much about her chicks – not that her chicks seem overly concerned with safety anyway!
