The story starts with a sad background. A North Carolina woman by the name of Jonsie Duke went through a horrific experience when her beloved 3-year-old white German Shepherd, Marley became a victim during a burglary. Burglars broke into her home and robbed her, but didn’t leave until they also killed her beloved German Shephed Dog.
“They robbed me,” she said, according to WNCN. “They could’ve just left him in my bedroom and took everything. They didn’t have to kill him.” Virtually every dog lover agrees. Nobody wants to be robbed, but if they must – fine, take everything. Just leave the dogs alone.
Duke’s story went viral with the hashtag #JusticeforMarley as naturally, everyone was outraged to hear what had happened to Marley and police are still looking for the people who did this.
However, something heartwarming happened next. According to WNCN, “A South Carolina dog breeder, Carolin Hogue, saw the…story about Marley and decided to help. Hogue, from Columbia, said one of her dogs had just had a litter of 10 puppies before coming across the story. Once she read about what happened, she said she had to give one away.” The puppy she gave to Duke was a white German Shepherd puppy – just like Marley was. Duke named him Ziggy.
“I feel blessed too being able to do this…definitely blessed,” Hogue said.
“I am extremely grateful. I am grateful to WNCN for helping me and Carolin getting hooked up and grateful for (Hogue) for driving all the way here and being willing to give me one of their babies,” Duke said.
According to WNCN, “Marley is now buried in the backyard along with his favorite blanket and toys. Phil, one of Duke’s cats, was missing for a while, but was later found and is now limping and shaken up, Duke said.”
It is so heartwarming to see people come together in the face of tragedy and help each other.
