Should I Brush My Dog's Teeth Every Day?

If there is one thing our human dentists often highlight, it is the importance of brushing our teeth! In order for us to maintain good tooth and gum health, our pearly whites must be attended to on a daily basis.

But what about our furry faced family members? Should we be brushing their teeth too? According to veterinarians, the answer is YES! And here are some of the reasons why:

  • Prevention against potentially serious infections: just like us, our dogs get build up on their teeth that can lead to tooth or gum infection. Removing that build-up on the daily will reduce the chance of it causing serious infection
  • It minimizes the need for professional cleaning: when we remove build up daily, the need for professional build up removal will most likely significantly decrease
  • Comfy gums: when we brush our dog’s teeth, we reduce the likelihood of inflamed gums too. This will definitely be a lot more comfortable for your beloved pooch!

The benefits certainly do make sense, as it is easy for us to imagine ourselves in their shoes! When you prepare to start brushing your canine companion’s teeth, there are a few things to consider. The first is to invest in a good product. The second is to get your dog familiar with the sensation of his gums being touched. Finally, get the right brush and gently start brushing! An important thing to remember is to be patient. You may find yourself needing to experiment with different kinds of toothpaste and routines to find the right fit for your four-legged friend!
