Sick Puppy Purchased Online Was Afraid Of Everything... Then She Met Her Loving Mom

Beau the Dalmation was merely a baby puppy when she was put up for sale over the Internet. When she fell highly sick and had expensive vet bills, her family surrendered her to the RSPCA Millbrook Animal Center, United Kingdom in February 2018.

Beau was found to have deadly parvovirus due to a lack of necessary vaccinations – a common dangerous disease in pups sold online. Thankfully, Beau was able to receive the treatment she needed. Unfortunately, as she recovered, she needed to be isolated from fellow shelter pups to avoid transmission of the virus.

Being cut off from the other dogs made Beau’s development slow, and she didn’t learn standard puppy skills quickly. This meant that even when she fully healed and was adopted, her terror of everything made her difficult to deal with and she was returned to the shelter.

Staff realized Beau was frightened of absolutely everything, and they had to work hard to build her confidence. They set up a mock-home in the shelter that would expose her to the sounds of kitchen utensils, electronic devices, and other things she would have to learn to confront in future normal home environments.

It took a long, long time, but Beau slowly became less terrified and startled by these items. Finally, she was ready to be adopted again. It wasn’t long before Trudy Kemp, who has had plenty of experience with rescue Dalmatians, hear of Beau. She had just lost two of her own Dalmatian pups and immediately hurried over to the shelter when she found out about Beau’s story.

Kemp fell in love with Beau right away and soon brought her home. At first, Beau was nervous and frightened. She didn’t even want to walk through the front door. But Kemp was patient and helped Beau any way she could, confident that Beau would come out of her shell and become braver if she was given time.

Kemp was completely right. It’s only been a couple months since Beau entered Kemp’s home, but she’s fast catching up on everything she missed out on as a puppy. She loves being outdoors, has a brand new pup sister who has taught her how to be a dog and play, and she absolutely loves her Mom! All’s well that ends well!
