Tara had just turned 40 when she decided to pursue her dream and enroll in a vet tech program. She was busy with the program and one thing led to another so she put off her mammogram off until she was finished with school in March of 2012.
When the single mother of two was studying one night, her golden retriever/St. Bernard mix named Willow jumped on her bed, put her nose to Tara’s left side and refused to get down from the bed. This was very unusual for Willow to behave this way.
No matter how many times she tried to shoo Willow off, the persistent dog jumped right back up and kept pushing her nose into Tara’s side. Luckily, Tara trusted her dog and knew that this strange behavior must be happening for some good reason.
One last time, Willow rubbed her wet nose against Tara’s side and sneezed, which caused Tara try and rub the wet spot off her shirt — and that’s when she felt the lump and her life forever changed!
She immediately scheduled a doctor’s appointment and sure enough, she had cancer. The good news is, Willow was by her side the entire time and Tara is now cancer-free!
