The outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic has brought a new set of rules and regulations into our daily lives. We have had to also implement various protocols and strategies to help curb the spread of this new virus.
One of the most highlighted methods to curb infections is social distancing. We have been encouraged to keep a good few feet apart from others, and this may include our animals too. In addition to this, we have had to work from home and change the way in which we go about things. We have certainly felt the impact in physical and emotional ways. However, our canine companions’ lives have also been significantly disrupted. There are, however, some things we can do to make these changes a little bit easier for everybody:
1. Disrupted routines and changed diet
Because our daily routines of waking up, eating, and leaving the house have changed, our doggo’s routines have changed too. Although they are grateful for the extra playtime, your canine companion may not be used to having you around all the time. This may cause anxiety for him, especially because we are all exhibiting some form of anxiety due to the pandemic. Try to keep your dog’s routine as close to normal as possible. This will lessen the shock for them when you do go back to work and will keep a sense of normality in the household
2. Loneliness and no socializing
Our dogs are used to having other friends and family around, as well as going on walks or excursions. This has been placed on hold because of the virus and might leave out mighty mutts feeling rather down. A good way to ease these feelings is to take them out to places that permit walking (even if it is at a distance) or introduce them to new sounds or places for a bit of excitement.
