To stem a recent surge of CoVid-19 cases in South Australia, the state’s government has imposed stricter lockdown protocols, banning dog walking, outdoor exercises, and funerals, while also, closing down schools, universities, restaurants, and cafes – for six days.
During this period, only one family member per household is allowed to leave the house in a day for important reasons, such as grocery buying. South Australia Premier Steven Marshall said that their state needs this ‘circuit breaker – this community pause.’
“We are going hard and we are going early,” Marshall said, “Time is of the essence and we must act swiftly and decisively.”
One funeral company reported that a client was planning on holding a memorial for a late loved one when the new restriction was imposed, and it shocked the bereaved family and relatives, while also angering them upon hearing about the new ban.
Others reacted to the prohibition of dog walking, saying that the exercise is not only beneficial to their dogs but also to the dog’s families, and that, there will be consequent problems, later on, if dog families aren’t able to give their canines the necessary daily exercise.
Since the middle of April this year, Australia had been spared from the virus transmissions until recently when 36 cases were uncovered and traced to a Covid 19-positive person who arrived from the UK and had transmitted the virus to a hotel staff during the his/her quarantine period.
