The grim reality is that many dog parents never see their beloved dogs again after they are stolen. This tear-jerking story reminds us to never give up hope and that life somehow has a funny way of working things out.
One Wednesday night, Bill Heatley with Streethearts Dog Rescue was called to the scene of an incident by the police. There, a homeless man was having a medical episode located near the town of Flint, and he had a dog with him. The shepherd mix was agitated because he was stuck in the car and his companion was clearly in distress. Once he got medical assistance, Heatley, along with Officer Victoria Butcher helped to calm him down and checked him for a microchip. There, they found the information they needed.
According to the microchip, the dog’s name was Jack and his mom was named Cornell. Jack was a rescue dog and they had been together since Jack was a pup. He was chained up outside every day and they formed a bond through sharing her lunch every day. When his original owners planned to euthanize him, she offered to take him and get his vaccines, check for heartworm, get him neutered, and finally, microchipped.
They had a good few months together until someone stole into her yard and took him. She had filed a police report, but nothing came of it. Four years had passed and she was still too sad to get another dog. She wasn’t expecting to ever see him again.
That Thursday morning, the call from Heatley was very unexpected. She met up with them in Mt. Morris that same night and he recognized her right away. The reunion was emotional for everyone.
