Lately, there has been an increase in the number of dog kidnappings. The targets are often trendy and expensive breeds, like the French Bulldog.
But that doesn’t mean mixed breeds are safe. Any dog that’s left unattended might fall victim. Thieves take dogs, remove their microchips, and resell or breed them. For example, a Frenchie can sell for around $3,000 USD. This practice has become an industry, and dog parents need to be more careful than ever. Unfortunately, Shona Macleod and her family had to feel the effects of a dog theft on their own skin.
When the Macleods purchased Roxie, a French Bulldog, they never would have thought one day she would be taken from them. But after only 18 months, Roxie was stolen from their front yard. She has been missing since March 2017, and the Macleod family had given up hope of ever getting her back.
On October 30, 2021, a stray dog team spotted Roxie walking through a park. They used her microchip to identify her parent, and, of course, it was Shona. After almost five years Roxie was found and returned to her home, where she belongs.
Since Roxie’s disappearance, the Macleod family grew. In early 2021, they got another Frenchie. And, there are also two (human) children in the family. But even with all the changes, Roxie managed to settle in just fine.
The family and Roxie’s rescuers think she was used for breeding and was abandoned after she gave birth a few times. Roxie had a very tough life, but at least she got a happy ending.
