Stray Dog Gets Healthy Now Looking For A Forever Home

Bodie is a two-and-a-half-year-old German shepherd mix, he was taken in by the Colonial Capital Humane Society in June 2020. Madison Newman, a kennel tech at the Humane Society, said that when Bodie arrived he was terribly disheveled.

Shockingly gaunt and covered with fleas and ticks, Bodie also had trouble being a dog. Whether he was disoriented in his new space or nudged by fear, he wasn’t too trusting in the beginning. Some dogs adopted from shelters have underlying trauma that was caused by events in their past; abandonment and the plight of being stray.

However, patience and a healthy dose of tender love and care goes a long way in their recovery. In Bodie’s case, the pup eventually came around and soon became friendly with other dogs. Newman noted that Bodie is normally shy when he meets someone for the first time, but he’s quick to warm up to people. Shyness in dogs is sometimes a hereditary inclination, but it can be a result of improper socialization in the first eight weeks of their life.

Shyness is pretty common in rescue dogs as well, usually caused by moving from one adoptive family to the next. Even so, it can be remedied with subtle socialization on a smaller scale and a good ol’ treat to encourage their behavior. Bodie is said to be food motivated and is a lover of treats, they encourage him to go on walks and climb out of his shell little by little. Though he is still getting used to the running of things, he’s healthy and full of love, looking for a family.
