Do you like sleeping while cuddling with your pup? Well, according to a new study, if you’re a woman, this may actually help you sleep much better than you would alone or next to a human partner! Here are all the interesting details.
Study Method
Buffalo, New York’s Canisius College is responsible for this study. Researchers gathered data from surveys conducted on 962 women in America in order to determine the relationship between sleep and pet ownership.
The surveys revealed that 55% of participants had at least one dog sleep with them in bed, 31% with a cat, and 57% with a human partner.
Reasons For Study
Prior research before this study revealed that sleeping with people can have both good and bad results on sleep quality. Research hoped to find data in this vein relating to dogs – and they certainly did!
Study Results
The results showed that women who went to sleep with their dogs in their bed experienced less disturbed sleep, often with higher feelings of security and even comfort. They also went to be and woke up at earlier times than cats.
On the other hand, those who sleep with cats in their bed have a similarly disruptive sleep to those sleeping with human partners, and they feel less safe and secure than when sleeping with either people or dogs.
What Does This Mean?
It’s possible that dog ownership comes with a fair bit of routine, leading to a stricter sleeping schedule, more exercise that promotes sleep quality, and other factors.
These results are still preliminary, so more research needs to be conducted. In the meantime, enjoy the feelings of comfort and safety that come with sleeping next to your dog!
