Thanks To DNA Testing Litter Mates Find Each Other After Being Separated By Hurricane Harvey

Thousands of pets are lost during hurricanes and other natural disasters. After Hurricane Harvey, many pups were displaced and found themselves alone and lost.

Ollie, found tied to a stop sign, was rescued and eventually adopted by a woman named Kristina in Alabama. Meanwhile, Daegyeon was similarly rescued, and he wound up adopted by a couple from New York, consisting of Hye and San.

Not knowing anything about the pups, these two families sent in their dogs’ DNA to Embark Veterinary to find out more about their family background and ancestry. Lab technicians then realized that the two samples had an uncanny resemblance to each other, and upon testing, it was discovered that the two were littermates!

Embark Veterinary decided to help put together a meet-up for the two, where they could enjoy a reunion. Kristina and Ollie made their way to New York to meet up with Hye, San, and Daegyeon, and the meeting was picture perfect! Although they didn’t seem to know each other from the past, meaning they were likely not raised together, the pups immediately hit it off. It wasn’t long before they were running and playing, and the two seemed to know that they shared a connection of sorts.

The two families still stay in touch now and send each other photos, and another reunion is being planned, this time involving Hye, San, and Deagyeon coming to Alabama!
