The results are in for the top breeds in 2015! The American Kennel Club (aka AKC) has announced the definitive breed rankings for 2015 and there were some surprises this year! Check out the top 13 (and full list) to see where your favorite breed ranked!
#13 The Dachshund
Dachshunds came in at number thirteen this year. That’s down from #11 in 2014 and #10 in 2013. While there may be a handful of breeds outranking dachshunds for 2015, they still reign high on the list as one of the most desirable furry friends you could possibly ask for. Known for their big personalities and loving nature towards the people they love, we’re glad to see dachshunds still ranking high on the list of most desirable breeds in the USA.

#12 The Siberian Husky
Siberian Huskies moved up to number twelve this year from #13 in 2014 and #14 in 2013. They seem to be gaining steady momentum, becoming more popular each year. These loyal, mischievous dogs certainly make life more interesting for the humans and it seems all of America is enjoying them more and more. It looks like they will be a breed to watch in the coming years as they continue to gain popularity.

#11 The German Shorthaired Pointer
Pointers (German Shorthaired, specifically) came in at number eleven this year. That’s up from #12 in 2014 and #13 in 2013. These friendly, smart dogs are full of energy and ready to please and as they gain momentum just behind Siberian Huskies each year, it seems they are on a steady rise as well. These are dogs to keep an eye on in the coming years as America falls more and more in love with the breed.

#10 The Boxer
Boxers came in at number ten this year in the AKC rankings. They went down a couple slots from #8 in 2014 and #7 in 2013. These active, fun-loving dogs still rank high in the hearts of Americans. Any boxer lover will tell you what goof balls Boxers are and for that reason, we have a feeling these pups will continue to stick around among the top ranked breeds for years to come.

#9 The Rottweiler
Rottweilers came in at number nine this year. That’s up from #10 in 2014 and back to the same number they ranked in 2013. These confident, loyal dogs seem to have a pretty solid place in the USA. If you’ve heard the saying, “slow and steady wins the race” that just may apply to these pups who consistently rank in the top AKC top 10 breeds.

#8 The Poodle
Another consistent breed, the Poodle came in at number eight this year. That’s down from #7 in 2014 but back to where they were in 2013 when they also ranked at #8. These active, smart canines seem to have a pretty solid place in America too. They consistently rank highly, being one of the top breeds in the USA for many years.

#7 The Yorkshire Terrier
The Yorkshire Terrier came in at number seven this year. That’s down just one point from the previous two years, when they ranked at #6 in 2014 and 2013. These little affectionate, sprightly pups have endeared themselves to Americans for years and they are one of those breeds that just isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. With their adorable hair-do’s, willingness to play dress up, and great personalities, yorkies continue to be a beloved favorite.

#6 The French Bulldog
French Bulldogs made some major movement this year, coming in at number six. In 2014 they ranked at #9 and in 2013 they came in at #11. These smart and playful Frenchies are taking the world by storm and quickly rising in popularity. They are a breed to watch out for in the years to come, with their big ears and smooshed faces, these dogs are going places!

#5 The Beagle
Beagles continue to steal hearts this year, coming in at number five this year, which is the same as in 2014 and just one point down from 2013. These curious, friendly pups continue to score high as they hold their popularity. You may remember Miss. P who won the Westminster in 2014. Some were concerned her win may draw poorly suited people to beagles, but it seems beagles are just holding steady with so many people who have always loved them.

#4 The Bulldog
Bulldogs came in at number four this year in the AKC rankings, which is the same as they were in 2014 and one point higher than in 2013 when they came in at #5. These calm, courageous, yet friendly pups continue to hold their spot thanks to their good looks and wonderful personalities.

#3 The Golden Retriever
Golden retrievers came in at number three this year. That’s the exact same slot they’ve held on to in 2014 and 2013 too which shows how solid these golden pups are in the USA. Their friendly, devoted personalities and beautiful golden locks make them a wonderful family dog, which is surely part of their popularity. Goldens have had the hearts of Americans for many years and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon!

#2 The German Shepherd Dog
German Shepherd Dogs ranked at #2 this year, which is the same place they’ve held in 2014 and 2013 as well. These loyal, intelligent, active dogs make great members of the family. Some even report they think their GSD’s understand every word they say. These beautiful dogs continue to hold their place as the number two most popular breed in the USA according to the AKC.

#1 The Labrador Retriever
Labrador retrievers came in at #1 once again as America’s most popular breed with the AKC! This is the same spot they’ve held in 2014 and 2013 as well. Known for their sweet temperaments and desire to do pretty much anything with their families – especially if it involves water, these black, yellow, and chocolate pups have captured the hearts of Americans.
