Great Danes are notoriously large dogs. When Maximus met Caleb and Ashlyn Mellstrom’s family and became forever pals, he was barely the size of their palm. It’s three years later and Maximus is roughly 200 pounds.
The funny part about it all is that he has no clue just how big he is. He thinks he’s the same size as Dahlia, his older Pomeranian sister.
As the youngest of the four dogs in the family, Maximus enjoyed all the attention, though the other siblings weren’t quite ready to share their parents. Their names are Cheyenne and Charlie, and they were not thrilled about his arrival.
Charlie is a Great Pyrenees/Lab mix and has since become friends with Max as long as he doesn’t mess with his sleep schedule. Cheyenne is still not pleased. Dahlia and Max are best friends.
They’ve been best friends since Max arrived, and remain, friends, even though he’s way bigger than her now.
Ashlyn’s best idea was taking weekly photos of her kids. This helped to document Max’s growth spurt. She knew how important this was from the moment he came home because they would not realize just how big he would become.
Taking the pictures became quite a task since they’d sometimes be uncooperative. In the end, she managed to get them lined up for the photo shoot.
The family is still surprised by how much he has grown, and in a humorous post on Facebook, she added that they might have watered this potato too much!
