Dogs have emotions, we know that – but do they really feel guilty if they do something wrong? There has been some debate about that, but chances are, your dog may not really understand something as complex as guilt.

If your dog does something wrong, you are probably going to get upset. Your dog can tell you are upset and acts accordingly. Since dogs are pack animals, they respond to the emotions of their pack. When you are happy, your dog is happy. When you get angry, they will act more submissively.

The more time that passes between the ‘crime’ and you finding the evidence, the less likely it is that your dog will have any actual remorse for what they did. But, as humans, we look at our dogs and see sorrow and guilt. Just watch as Tank, the bulldog, looks guilty about the chewed sandal mom has in her hand.
