If you haven’t noticed yet, almost every dog-centric movie has at least one joke about dogs sniffing each other’s butts for ages. There is a reason for this! Many animals have anal glands, tiny glands that provide a scent.
These scents act as a way to identify each other, and are usually emptied out when your pup goes to poop!
Sometimes, sadly, they don’t operate normally, and these glands get clogged. As a result, it causes the poor pup to suffer as it becomes painfully swollen. In fact, a common symptom of blocked anal glands is your pup scooting their butt along the floor in an attempt to relieve it. As responsible parents, we’d have to express these smelly glands either professionally or by ourselves to give our poor pups some relief!
Luckily for Man the Beagle, his Mom noticed him having problems with his anal glands and had that sorted. Now he can jump onto sofas and sit down on his butt with no more pain!
