When Hope for Paws received a call about a stray Labrador wandering the streets, they rushed to the scene. But after the first attempt to sneak up on and slip a gentle snare around the neck of the pup while she was sleeping failed, the pup took off running.
It took a while of chasing and tracking down the pup before she finally hid in a place where she could be easily caught – someone’s yard. After informing the residents of what was going on, the two rescuers worked to earn the Lab’s trust. Finally, she was calm enough for one rescuer to slip the snare over her, and the other fashioned a leash onto her. She happily soaked in the pets that the rescuers gave her and let herself be carried out.
The pup’s condition clearly showed that she had been used for breeding and then discarded when she was no longer needed. The pup was not microchipped and the rescuers decided to name her Perla. She was taken to a hospital, where she received the medical care she needed. At the hospital, for the first time, she finally wagged her tail at the rescuers when she was offered food! Things were looking up.
Just a few weeks later, Perla got her happy ending as the Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue found her a forever home! She now gets plenty of treats, plenty of playtime, lots of toys, and of course, a loving family.
