This Pup Waited For Over 1,100 Days To Find His Loving Home... Now He's Back At The Shelter

When an urgent animal cruelty report was filed back in December 2016, rescuers rushed to the scene. In a snowy, cold yard was Geronimo, a little pup caged up in a too-tiny crate, shivering from cold. He appeared completely emaciated, so much so that rescuers feared he may not survive.

Geronimo found solace in the Humane Society of Summit County, or HSSC, of Ohio. There, it was found that he had a heartworm infection that could have been fatal if he hadn’t be found and treated right away. The pup also had bad knees due to his small crate space and had to go through bilateral knee surgeries in all legs.

There was a long road to recovery ahead, and Geronimo patiently waited. It was only in early February 2019 that he finally found his way to a new home – but he wound up being returned shortly after, deemed a bad match for the family, who had no choice but to return him.

As of the end of February, Geronimo had been sitting in the shelter for more than 1,145 days. Staff at the HSSC understand that his return was necessary and hope it will not deter potential adopters from giving him a chance.

Rescuers want so badly to find the truly perfect home for him, and he’s a lovely pup who would fit well in an adult home where he can be the only pup. He’s waited three years for his forever family, and he can’t wait for the search to be over. If you think you may be the right fit for this lovely pup, visit the HSSC website here.
