When two women spotted an odd animal wandering around with a very long, rounded cylinder for a head in Greater Ville, St. Louis, Missouri, they were very alarmed. When they realized what it was, they rushed to call 911!
The animal in question was a five-year-old dog who had gotten his head stuck on a sewer pipe. He’d likely been curiously investigating a smell when he got himself into the predicament. Luckily for him, the women wasted no time getting help.
Within minutes, the Metropolitan Police Department and the St. Louis Fire Department arrived. It took them 15 minutes of struggling to hold the terrified dog down so they could safely get the pipe off, and the pup was so scared he was squirming in fear.

When they finally succeeded in freeing him, the exhausted dog lay on the ground, too tired to move. The pipe had prevented the pup from being able to eat or drink, but the pup was otherwise alright. The City of St. Louis Animal Care Center took him in and fell in love with the shy, sweet dog immediately. He was named McCartney after the famous Beatles singer.

One worker at the shelter immediately knew that the pup would be a great addition for his daughter, Dawn Wizeman, and her family, who had been looking for a dog to fit into their home for ages. They needed a pup who would fit in with their two children and their cat, and McCartney fit the bill perfectly.

The pup now lives happily with the Wizemans! He’s an odd pup, and he doesn’t behave anything like a typical dog, as though he never learned to act like one.

Still, he loves sniffing around and spending time lying next to his family, and he’s adjusting well to his forever home!
