This Talented Labrador Has Learned To Read After 18 Months Of School!

Everyone meet Fernie, an adorable Labrador pup who can actually read the commands and executes them just beautifully! Incredible isn’t it? Yes this fur ball can actually read up to four words!

After 18 months in school, Fernie can actually read up to 4 commands and knows how to execute them perfectly! not only that, he is even reportedly helping out and encouraging other classmates to read new words. Fernie was originally brought in school to encourage children to read while they pet him, but as it turned out, he learned to read too!

His daddy and headteacher Nik Gardner says that Fernie has the ability to read another 20 words! Nik was quoted saying, “Training Fernie to recognize words was surprisingly simple. For his initial training I used the clicker technique, where the dog learns to associate a treat with the distinctive sound. Then, while still using the clicker technique, I started showing him simple commands on a flashcard …whilst giving him the spoken command. After a while, I … just used the flashcard on its own because he had learned to read it.” Take a look at this fur ball’s talents on page 2 below!
