We all know IKEA – it’s a furniture store established in Sweden that has branches all around the world. But one particular store of this brand, located in Catania, Italy, has gone way further than just selling furniture for houses – they’ve made their place a home for the needy.
This IKEA has opened up its doors, surprising its customers completely when they chance upon several local dogs relaxing in different displays and enjoying the soft, warm furniture.
The pups in question happen to be local strays, and this IKEA has welcomed them with open arms to allow them to seek shelter from the elements.
Every day, these lucky pups receiving food from staff and plenty of attention and love from the patrons of the IKEA store. In fact, some dogs have been lucky enough to be brought home by the customers who come to visit!
This IKEA doesn’t advertise their pup-providing policies anywhere, but their customers are doing it for them – including Martine Taccia, who shared a now viral video of the pups chilling amongst the furniture, and Beppe Liotta, who is in love with this compassionate initiative.
But IKEA isn’t new to the animal advocacy scene. They have worked with Home For Hope and set up cardboard cutouts of a variety of available shelter pups as part of a campaign to bring attention to these pets in need of forever homes.
It would be truly lovely to see other businesses starting to provide spaces for stray animals like this!
Let’s hope that IKEA’s example will lead other retailers to do the same.
