2015 was a great year for dogs. We saw lots of positive changes. Texas put an end to greyhound racing and we saw countless raids on puppy mills which resulted in a ton of dogs being rescued and adopted out to loving homes. We saw Tennessee lead the way, instituting an animal abuse registry and the famous, beautiful Caitlyn get healthy and adopted into a loving home she truly deserved.
We are proud to have been able to see all these wonderful changes and look forward to what 2016 has in store for dogs. We still have so much more work to do to put an end to animal abuse and puppy mills, but we made tremendous progress this year!
In honor of the dogs that have made 2015 worth every moment, we have put together a list of our top 10 stories.
10) Bulldog Takes Action When Clueless Human Leaves Him In Hot Car
This bulldog was left in a hot SUV, but he wasn’t about to just sit there and take it – he took matters into his own paws to draw a crowd and save himself! Leaving dogs in hot cars was one of the top issues in 2015. We’re seeing increased awareness and are hopeful that more laws will be passed to save dogs like this.
9) New York Proposed A Bill That Would Allow You To Break A Window To Save A Dog In A Hot Car
Believe it or not, in most states it is illegal to break a car window to save a dog dying of heat. Many states have laws in place which state you shouldn’t leave your dog in a hot car, but New York took the next step – proposing a bill that would allow citizens to break car windows if necessary to save a dog’s life.
8) This Lab Broke Everyone’s Hearts When He Begged His Human For Forgiveness
One lab took puppy dog eyes to the next level, giving his human the most heartbreaking apology we have ever seen. We still don’t know what this lab could have done, but this is the video that made everyone scream, just forgive the dog, already!
7) This Family Dog Busted An Abusive Babysitter And Showed Us Why You Should Always Listen To Your Dog
Dogs know best. When everyone else was at work, this friendly family dog was there to see this babysitter abusing a little baby. He wasn’t about to take it anymore and made it very clear this babysitter was not welcome in his home, near his human sibling! The family listened to their dog, making for one of the most unbelievable busts of the year!
6) We Saw 7 Types Of Really Cute Dachshunds
One family showed us what living with seven types of dachshunds looks like and we fell in love with all these long bodies with short legs.
5) We Met The Smartest Bulldog Ever
Gabe the bulldog took the internet by storm when he showed off his tricks – everything from flushing the toilet to famously riding a rocking horse, he had us wondering if he is the smartest dog ever. Gabe is proof that bulldogs can do amazing things!
4) This Dachshund Broke Our Hearts When He Had His Last Day With His Family
Little Jimi the dachshund sadly spent his final day with his family, but they shared a beautiful tribute to his final day with them. We’re pretty sure it is humanly impossible to watch this entire video without crying. He was a very special little guy.
3) We Met Some Adorable Running Dachshund Puppies That Cheered Us Up More Than Once
These dachshunds cheered us up again and again! These little puppies are quite possibly some of the cutest pups we’ve seen and seeing them run towards up with ears flapping is pretty much guaranteed to cheer you up, no matter what!
2) We Learned How To Stop Reverse Sneezing
Many dogs have trouble with this, but few dog parents know how to stop it. We learned this technique to calm your fur kid’s reverse sneezing once they get going and give them some relief!
1) We Learned The Dangers Of Xylitol As It Becomes More Popular
Xylotil seems to be showing up in more and more things lately – from gum to toothpaste, to peanut butter. One dog’s story broke our hearts but created a big surge in awareness of this artificial sweetener and its effects on dogs.
2015 was a truly incredible year. There were tears and heartache, but there was also growth and promise. Thanks for your support and helping us feed shelter dogs. We are looking forward to a wonderful 2016!
